Personnages Détestés DBZ

Most Hated Characters in Dragon Ball Z

From the agile mind of Akira Toriyama, the Dragon Ball franchise is filled with a pantheon of incredibly creative and original characters. From basic martial arts to villains straight out of Toriyama's nightmares, he's created an entire army of incredible characters over the years. 🐱‍🏍

However, with such a plethora of humans, animals, dinosaurs and aliens, some inevitably fall to the bottom of the scale in terms of quality. And of course, preferences are felt on the fan side.😫

While the breadth of content available is staggering, we're going to focus on the characters in the DBZ saga . Despite this, the events of Dragon Ball, Super, and the various films can be mentioned in order to refine our selection of the Most Hated Characters in Dragon Ball Z. So let's not wait any longer, here we go!

10. YAMCHA

Yamcha

Yamcha is a long-running character who was first introduced as a thief in the first original Dragon Ball series. He eventually abandoned this activity to develop his fighting skills with Goku and Krillin, and also became the boyfriend (passenger) of Bulma .

Shortly after the release of Dragon Ball Z, Yamcha's relevance quickly dwindled. His combat capabilities do not match those of the other characters, and he often gets beaten up. Eventually, the team abandoned him, realizing that the rest of the troupe deserved more attention and development, leaving poor Yamcha to wander in the dust and old memories of early fans. ⏲

To deepen the wound, Bulma broke up with him to fall into the arms of the man responsible for her first death: Vegeta . Ouch! However, if there is one positive thing to say about Yamcha, it is that he himself realizes that he is a low-end fighter, but he continues to fight anyway, even going so far as to beat against Cell. This requires courage and deserves respect, knowing full well that another death is coming... 😅

9. GALRIC JR.

Garlic Jr

Garlic Jr. is in a difficult position. He plays in the first film Dragon Ball Z: The Hunt for Garlic , then he has his own saga in the Japanese series itself. Alas, the Garlic Jr. saga is the most banal in the franchise, and generally also the most hated. The disgust towards this character comes mainly from this boring saga, which drags on between the defeat of Goku against the evil Frieza and his possible return. 👼

It is interesting to note that Garlic Jr. is the only villain capable of obtaining immortality thanks to crystal balls, the dragon balls, a feat that even the most monstrous were not capable of. But he finds himself in these wrong place, wrong time situations, condemned forever to be locked in this "dead zone" of the saga of the greatest action cartoon all time. 😥

8. YAJIROBÉ

Yajirobe

Like Yamcha, Yajirobe began appearing in the series during the Dragon Ball era. He was a ronin who, despite being overweight, was a surprisingly powerful fighter, even saving Goku's life in the saga of King Piccolo . 👑

Arriving in DBZ, Yajirobe retains his characteristic laziness, but still tries to stay relevant going so far as to train for the arrival of the Saiyans (although this "training" consisted mostly of eating) and even save the situation by cutting Vegeta's tail , thus ending his destructive transformation of Oozaru (gorilla or giant ape). 🙊

From this point on, he's essentially relegated to getting pissed on by baby Trunks, quickly becoming an aimless individual in an ever-growing roster of better and stronger characters. Although the art team's intention to make him a stoned surfer was valiant, nothing could pull Yajirobe from the pit of mediocrity.

7. VIDEL

Videl

Videl is another hopeless case. She still has some qualities: qualified in martial arts, daughter of Hercules (Mr. Satan) , future wife of Son Gohan , and part-time superheroine. In his most interesting moment, he is taught how and why Z-Fighters are capable of rising into the air and firing bursts of energy to defeat the worst demons. ☀️

Where did she falter? The fact that she is on this list is not the fault of her character, but rather that of the writers. She's off to a good start with a promise of interesting arcs. Unfortunately, the momentum she gained evaporated in the wind in order to divert attention away from her and towards others more impressive characters , which caused him to wither and die narratively. 💪

6. UUB

Uub

After the defeat of Majin Buu by Goku's ultra Spirit Bomb technique, the creature will be reborn in the form of a young man with a big heart. Originally from a poor village, he participates in world martial arts tournament in order to ensure the financial future of his city. Having to face Son Goku in the final round, the two eventually abandon the tournament, with Goku offering to train the future warrior. Uub readily agreed.

Uub is an interesting concept, but we don't know enough about him to care about him in the manga anime. Its last minute addition and very short story are a frustrating way to end the anime series and they do nothing to provide any real sense of closure. If anything, he only enrages viewers by tricking Goku into abandoning his wife and children. 😣

5. THE KAIS

The Kaio Shin

Being one of the most lovable characters - with his penchant for bad jokes, his immense knowledge, his caring attitude - it's a shame that the counterparts of the King Kai are so painfully uninteresting. The super-powerful king is part of a race of galactic protectors who watch over the four regions of the universe, and in the few appearances made by the others Kais , they fail to make much of an impression. 📣

Even their leader, the Grand Kai , is portrayed as a wacky old man who doesn't really offer any value to our heroes' efforts. Next we have the Supreme Kai, also called Kaio Shin , who fails to live up to his name.

Instead of being the all-powerful character, he is one of the most powerless deities, constantly getting kicked out of his place until others come to save him. With so many unique and pleasing qualities for the King Kai , it's a shame his equals are so boring and meaningless in the long run. 🍃

4. CHIAOTZU

Chiaotzu

Chiaotzu suffers the same fate as Yamcha, in which he was transferred from Dragon Ball to DBZ only to quickly become obsolete. Trained at the crane school, he was the partner Ten Shin Han , in a scam where the two men had to save villages from a disaster they themselves had caused and reap the rewards. He later changed paths and became, along with Ten, an ally of Goku. 👨‍❤️‍👨

When we come to the DBZ saga, Chiaotzu has experienced significant moments, he is part of our TOP 10 Deaths in Dragon Ball following his suicide attack against Nappa , before being relegated to a secondary role during the Cell Saga, his last moment of importance being to offer energy to Saiyan Goku's final Spirit Bomb against Boo. 🎇

His cute design and strange powers have certainly made him iconic, as evidenced by this Chiaotzu AirPods case , but its weaknesses and his generally weak characterization relegated him to the bottom of the character ladder.

3. ADULT GOHAN

Sangohan Adult

As one of the best characters in DBZ's early acts, the young Sangohan had immense power that was only evoked in moments of extreme duress. In fact, he was so powerful that he even turned the tide against enemies exponentially stronger than him. As a teenager, he learned to harness this power, using it to transform into Super Saiyan 2 and disintegrate Cell into a massive Kamehameha .

It then appears that he was created to become the main character after reaching adulthood, adopting the role of a superhero in order to continue fighting. However, this plot was almost immediately abandoned, because all the momentum of Gohan , along with everything interesting about him, has been stripped of its substance. 🙄

Fortunately, he reaches a climax one last time as Ultimate Gohan in the fight against Buu before returning to being as boring as humanly possible on earth in Dragon Ball Super. 🎥

2. GOTEN

Goten

Being the second son of Goku and Chichi, one would think that Goten has some redeeming values and memorable character traits. Instead, it only exists as a tool for Trunks to introduce the merger concept in the television series, allowing them to become Gotenks .

Worse still, what little personality Son Goten shows is very thin, his carefree nature and ability to transform into Super Saiyan do not achieve the charm necessary for the public to be interested in the youngest of the family. 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦

Of course, he does his share of heroism in the Boo saga but, once again, it is thanks to his ability to merge with Trunks and take on the arrogant persona that is Gotenks, as they go to face the master of evil incarnate, Majin Buu. 😈

1. BABY TRUNKS

Baby Trunks

Trunks is one of the most accomplished characters in the Dragonball saga. Came from the future and brandishing a sword, he left an indelible mark on fans with his speed (and violence) with which he faced the enemies mentioned above. Better yet, his more adult form, after extensive training with his father Vegeta, was able to reach a new level of power, pushing the Super Saiyan state to its limits. 🗡

Far from his future role as master of the blade and the final form of the Ascended Saiyan, Baby Trunks is a little terror, who has a penchant for messiness and a little too much power for his age. It's not so much that Trunks as a baby is doing something wrong, but more importantly that we know what he will be capable of as a teenager and as an adult and we are therefore disappointed by this one.

If there is any consolation to this long period of youth, the plot of the film Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Dragon highlights him as a character with the inevitable Tapion, giving him a degree of humanity that is unparalleled in the series.

Tapion Music Box

And there you have it, our TOP 10 Most Hated Characters in Dragon Ball is finished. We could have included characters from the new saga, other films and Dragon Ball GT but that would have been way too long! Hating a character is also a very subjective notion, you can very well hate a hero because of his history in shonen or because of his completely zero gameplay in the dragon ball video game (thanks to Bandai Namco and Toei Animation for this gameplay sometimes anecdotal...).

Fortunately, the new series Super Strikes Back by offering us something new, so don't hesitate to watch it on TV or streaming to catch up and discover new faces!
