How did Yamcha get his scar?

Yamcha has been around since the very first original Dragon Ball series. Like Krillin, he is one of the first characters Goku meets on his long journey during his quest to find the crystal balls. 🔮

Yamcha remained important throughout most of the Dragon Ball saga and obviously returned in Dragon Ball Z as a supporting character. He died after being blown up by a Saibaman in the Saiyan saga, a moment that was widely shared online with the creation of various memes. Yamcha was also present during the Frieza, Cell and Buu Sagas . Although not necessarily an integral part of the main adventures, Yamcha always had at least a small role to play (even if some were only in filler episodes). 😅

Yamcha is known for defeating Reacum on King Kai's planet, for being the first to fight C-20, and for using the Dragon Balls to wish everyone Cell had killed to be resurrected. He is also known worldwide for his " death pose ", the source of many memes. We dedicated an article to him, don't hesitate to read: why Yamcha is a victim if you're interested!

WHO IS YAMCHA REALLY?

Yamcha fight

Yamcha is a former bandit from far away, now turned warrior and one of Goku's oldest friends. Long before Goku started relying on heroes like Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo, Yamcha was one of his most loyal allies. At the time, the character was heavily involved in Goku's battles against the Red Ribbon Army , tournaments, and more. 🥊

Starting with the DBZ series , Yamcha (along with a handful of other characters) ceased to be relevant in Japanese anime, partly because the gap between him and the stronger and more powerful Z-Fighters powerful, was becoming too big for him to be someone Son Goku could really count on in battle. But despite this and the mockery he often receives, Yamcha is still one of the fan-favorite Z-Warriors. 👌🏻

YAMCHA’S SCARS

Yamcha Scars

But the mystery is there. None of these scars have ever been directly explained. However, as they were not part of her appearance in most of the original Dragon Ball episodes , clues can be found by looking at when they first appeared. Yamcha appeared with the scars after a time jump of approximately three years, when the then 18-year-old Goku arrived at Kamé House to meet his friends in the final story arc. from Dragon Ball. 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦

Yamcha never explained how he got these scars, but they may match what was happening at the time. This reunion took place just before the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, when Goku faced Piccolo for the first time and became engaged to Chi-Chi.

During the three years the series ran, Goku, Ten Shin Han, Krillin, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu spent their time training to be ready for the next tournament. With this in mind, it seems likely that Yamcha's training is the reason for his scars. It is possible that while preparing for the tournament, Yamcha was cut in the face while facing an opponent carrying a sword. ⚔

It may be that the purpose of these injuries was to demonstrate the intensity of Yamcha's training. He may have had a few wins, but unfortunately, it didn't carry much into the tournament , considering he lost to Kami in the quarterfinals. 😖

YAMCHA’S APPEARANCE

That being said, the scars are still an important part of Yamcha's overall look and appearance. They also helped reinvent and anchor the character's appearance. At first, Yamcha the Desert Bandit was a character skilled in martial arts and armed with his saber , wearing a green and yellow outfit.

He was also known for his fear of girls. Today, Yamcha, who overcame his fear and built a reputation as a playboy, has put his saber sword away, his outlaw costume and his days as a desert bandit behind him. And that’s why we love it! 😊
