KRILIN APPEARANCE
The first thing that surprises you when you see the character of Krillin is that he doesn't have a nose! But don't panic, the latter can smell, as we see through the episodes of the series. 👃
The second thing you notice is his bald head. The reason is simple: previously Krillin was a monk and followed a monastic education, based on that of the Shaolin monks, which explains why he has a shaved head. A quick reminder, Shaolin monks are Chinese monks from the Shaolin monastery founded in the 5th century, and receiving an education based in particular on martial art. And what martial art? The third thing is the curious presence of 6 points on his skull. After his defeat during the world martial arts tournament, Krillin continues his training with Kamé Sennin. However, he interrupts the latter to accompany his friend Goku in the quest for the Dragon Balls, and to fight the Red Ribbon Army. 🔮
Krillin, Bulma and Goku will experience many adventures during this eponymous saga. They go in search of a cave containing a famous pirate treasure. They find her, but were followed by General Blue , who goes to confront Krillin and defeat him. General Blue narrowly misses killing Krillin when he uses his telekinetic power to freeze him in place. Fortunately, Goku manages to overpower him and beat the General, while saving Krillin. The 3 friends then quickly escape from the cave, which collapses following the fight. 💥
Bulma still manages to recover a ruby before the cave disappears, and she brings it back, in the company of Krillin and Goku, to the island of Kamé Sennin. The ruby is, however, stolen by General Blue and Launch, who tie up the 3 accomplices and try to blow up the island. Launch, however, returns to a more noble state of mind and unties Goku, who quickly gets rid of the bomb and goes after Blue. Krillin and Bulma manage to free themselves in the meantime and go to help Goku in the company of Yamcha and other inhabitants of the Kamé House. But Goku does not wait for them, and succeeds in defeating the Red Ribbon Army.
SAGA OF TEN SHIN HAN
In this saga Krillin is 17 years old and participates in the 22nd world martial arts tournament with Goku and Yamcha . A competition will arise during the preliminary matches with the Crane school, Krillin particularly not liking a student named Chaozu . Krillin successfully completed the preliminary matches and the various finals of the tournament without any problem. 🏆
Chaozu will find himself facing Krillin in the quarter-final match, after having arranged for chance to bring them face to face thanks to his power of telekinesis . Krillin first appears to lead the fight against Chaozu, before the latter uses his telekinetic powers. But Krillin ends up beating him and advances to the semi-finals during which he will face Goku. The two friends engage in a fight where the blows are not restrained. Krillin begins by throwing a Kamé Hamé Ha at Goku, who blocks the attack. Krillin uses this time to go behind Goku and pull his tail in order to pin him to the ground. The referee counts to nine, and Goku then gets up and throws Krillin off. He will win the fight. 🌟
SAGA OF KING PICCOLO
During the King Piccolo saga, Krillin helps Goku collect items. During this quest Krillin is killed by a kick thrown by Tambourine in the neck. This demon had in fact been ordered to eliminate the most powerful martial arts warriors who could compete with King Piccolo, and to ensure that the latter could dominate the world without opposition.
This tragic loss strengthens Goku's determination to stop King Piccolo and his evil plans. Goku wants to avenge the deaths of his loved ones and nothing will stop him! He defeats the king and Krillin, as well as other victims of Piccolo are resurrected thanks to the Crystal Balls. 🔮
PICCOLO JR ARMY SAGA
In this saga Krillin leaves for training with Chaozu, Yamcha and Ten at Korin Tower. Before getting there, they save a village threatening to be destroyed by a lava eruption from the Popo Poco volcano. They then reach the tower and receive their training there. It is then time to begin the 23rd world martial arts tournament . 🎖
Once again, Krillin finds himself face to face with Goku, and is delighted to see his friend again! During the battles, Krillin confronts Piccolo, the son of King Piccolo. He uses the flight technique against him, to which Piccolo responds with the afterimage technique, which ultimately leads Krillin to abandon the fight after a free kick from Piccolo. It's Goku's turn to fight Piccolo, who will then break the latter's limbs. Krillin and Ten, along with other friends try to help Goku, but Piccolo stops them. Eventually, during a long fight, Goku, Krillin and his friends manage to defeat Piccolo . 🏆
KRILIN IN DRAGON BALL Z
SAIYAN SAGA
This saga begins 5 years after Goku's victory against Piccolo during the 23rd world martial arts tournament. Krillin is on Kamé Sennin Island, meeting Goku's son Gohan . A surprise visit surprises them all: Raditz, Goku's brother, who tells everyone of Goku's Saiyan origins. At the same time, Raditz violently slaps Krillin and drags Gohan with him. Immediately Krillin and Kamé Sennin suggest that Goku go get Gohan and fight Raditz , but Goku ultimately makes a pact with Piccolo, with the aim of defeating Raditz, then separating afterwards.💥
The fight takes place and Krillin just has time to arrive to be at Goku's side while the latter is dying. This loss causes immense grief to Krillin, reinforced by seeing Piccolo take his son's friend to train with him, without being able to do anything to stop him, Piccolo being much stronger. Krillin does not reveal Goku's death to Chi-Chi, for fear of the latter's anger. 🚨
Later Krillin leaves with Tien, Yamcha, Yajirobe, and Chaozu to train with Kami and Mr. Popo, in order to fight against the Saiyans. Krillin greatly increases his power during this training, allowing him and his companions, as well as Piccolo and Gohan, to fight Vegeta and Nappa while waiting for Goku. Yamcha is killed during the fight, causing severe pain to Krillin and causing him to unleash a phenomenal attack, but not allowing him to overcome the Saiyans. During the fight Piccolo is killed, and the only survivors continuing to fight are Krillin and Gohan. Nappa will then be killed by Vegeta. 💀
It is Goku who will save them, by defeating Vegeta. Krillin helps his friend in this fight by fetching the spirit bomb created to defeat Vegeta. Once he returns, he throws this bomb at Vegeta, narrowly missing him. However Gohan manages to bounce it and throw it at Vegeta, injuring him. At the end of the fight Krillin is the only survivor among his friends who can walk. He then drags himself towards the Saiyan prince, while recovering Yajirobe's katana in the process, in order to kill him.
Goku then stops him, arguing that Vegeta is defenseless, and that this death would not be fair. Krillin is very surprised by this mark of empathy and compassion on the part of his friend for a man who caused misfortune and destruction, but chooses, reluctantly however, to trust the judgment of his best friend, sparing Vegeta .
SAGA FREEZER
In this saga, Kami and Piccolo having died, the Dragon Balls are no longer of any use, no longer working. Piccolo, Kami, Yamcha, Tien and Chaozu are assumed to be dead, permanently in the absence of the crystal balls. Krillin suddenly has an idea: the Dragon Balls are the work of the inhabitants of Namek, so why not go see them and use the Dragon Balls present there in order to resurrect their friends? So he leaves, accompanied by Bulma and Gohan.
They arrive on the planet Namek and discover to their horror that the latter is supporting a siege organized by Frieza, a real tyrant who destroyed the planet Vegeta, which is the home planet of Goku and Vegeta. Frieza also seeks the Dragon Balls to obtain immortality. Observing the situation Gohan and Krillin save a young Namekian, Dendé , from Frieza's soldiers. The latter will then take them to Guru, the guardian of Namek, who will allow them to release their ki and thereby increase their power. Subsequently, a powerful and long fight will take place between Krillin, Gohan, Vegeta and Frieza, in order to recover the Dragon Balls and prevent Frieza's project from being carried out.
Meanwhile Goku, who has been released from the hospital, learns where his friends have gone and the situation the planet Namek is experiencing. He leaves there immediately, and faces a group of Frieza soldiers. The fight leaves him with serious injuries, and Vegeta takes him to rest and recuperate at a treatment center. 👩⚕️
Krillin, Gohan and Vegeta manage to recover the Dragon Balls. Vegeta then wishes to request immortality, but cannot, not having the password to use the crystal balls. Finally, Dendé reveals it, and expresses the wish to see Piccolo come back to life, while Vegeta is asleep. This wish also brings back Kami. 🔮
However, the fight is not over. Frieza returns and transforms, using a much more powerful form . He then attacks Krillin, and impales him with one of his horns, then throws him into the sea, leaving Krillin for dead. Dendé rushes to him and uses his healing abilities to heal him. Mad with rage, Krillin will use the Destructo disk to violently attack Frieza and cut off part of his tail. Frieza responds by attacking him, without suspecting that it is a ruse by Krillin to distract him while Dendé uses his abilities again, but this time on Gohan.
Piccolo appears, and will merge with the warrior Nail before joining Krillin, Vegeta and Gohan in their fight against Frieza. The latter, however, has been made aware of Frieza's abilities, and will kill him, to prevent him from being able to heal the warriors again.
Frieza will also attack Krillin, killing him and then threatens to attack Gohan . These two events will trigger a monster fury in Goku, who will transform into a Super Saiyan for the first time, which allows him to defeat Frieza. Frieza then attempts in a desperate move to destroy the planet Namek, thus seeming to lead to the death of Goku as well.
Once the fight is over, Bulma will use the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish Krillin back to life, as well as anyone who was killed by Frieza. Krillin settles back into planet Earth, enjoying the chance to be alive again.
ANDROID SAGA
During this saga Krillin will meet the woman who will later become his wife: C-18 during a battle with Vegeta and Goku against C-19, C-20, and Dr. Gero. Indeed, Dr. Gero had found refuge in his laboratory after C-19's defeat against Vegeta, and then awakens C-17 and C-18 from the artificial sleep in which he had plunged them. However, the latter two rebel against Gero and take it upon themselves to eliminate him. 🤖
Vegeta, Goku and Krillin go to fight them, and when the opportunity is given to Krillin to deactivate C-18, he refuses, falling in love with her. C-18 also marries Krillin seven years later. They will have a beautiful little girl called Marron.
SAGA CELL
This saga takes place after the destruction of Doctor Gero 's laboratory. Piccolo pursues Cell, in order to prevent this creature from absorbing C-17 and C-18 in turn. Krillin is the first to locate Cell and tries to fight him, but loses that battle and is left for almost dead. Cell takes the opportunity to escape before Piccolo and Tien arrive.
Cell succeeds in absorbing C-17 and reaches a so-called semi-perfect form. Bulma then invents a remote control to deactivate C-18, then destroy it to prevent it from being absorbed by Cell. She orders Krillin to do it, but he refuses, having fallen in love with her. Cell then absorbs C-18 and reaches its so-called perfect form. Krillin attempts to attack him, but is repelled and defeated in mere moments, Cell's strength being immense. The latter also defeats Trunks and Vegeta. This evil being then announces the organization of games, called the Cell Games, to show its power to the whole world. Krillin prepares for the tournament with his friends.
The fights against Cell are long and tedious, Cell's power being phenomenal. They succeed, however, and manage to defeat Cell in a long Kamehameha attack. 💥
TENKAICHI BUDOKAI SAGA
During this Tenkaichi Budokai saga, we find our faithful companion Krillin seven years later, married to android C-18 and with whom he had a daughter they named Marron.
Krillin then grew his hair and lives with his family in Kamé House, a house on a tiny island in the middle of the sea. It is the home of Master Roshi and, for a large part of the Dragon Ball series, that of Launch too. It will also become Krillin's permanent residence. During the Majin Buu saga, he still lives there with his wife and daughter.
WHAT MARKED KRILIN IN THE OTHER SAGAS
KRILIN IN DRAGON BALL SUPER
In the Golden Frieza saga we can follow Krillin's life with his family: Krillin retired from martial arts and became a police officer, where he tracks down criminals and thieves, and arrests them. However, Krillin returns to martial arts and his warrior training during a call from Bulma informing him that Frieza has returned to life and intends to attack Earth. In a symbolic gesture he shaves his head and puts on his old combat outfit. He leaves to fight Frieza and his army , along with Gohan, Piccolo and Tien. He succeeds in defeating Frieza's soldiers, and then witnesses the fight between Goku and Frieza, witnessing the latter's defeat. 💥
In the Future Trunks saga, Krillin trains with Goku again, after C-18 calls him "weak". During this training which takes place on the island of Kamé Sennin Krillin will then face his old enemies from the past appearing in the illusions caused by the forest of terror, including the demon Tambourine. During this fight, Krillin first attempts to escape, before making the decision to fight back, which allows him to learn the secret of the illusions, which vanish when he removes his energy. His desire to fight returns, and he resolves to continue fighting to protect his family.
Within the Universe survival saga, Krillin participates in the Tournament of Power, a martial arts competition to determine the strongest fighter in the Universe, and in order to save Universe 7, in which he lives. However, if he agrees to participate in this tournament, it is firstly because Goku lies to him by claiming that a prize of 10 million Zenis will be offered to the winner. Krillin learns of this lie and, furious at having been fooled, wants to give up participating in the tournament, before changing his mind after Beerus threatens to kill him. Krillin goes to fight, but is then thrown from the arena by an attack from Frost. 🤣
This saga reveals a much older Krillin , now with graying or even white hair and a relatively imposing mustache on his face. His other features do not change, he is the same height and has the same mischievous eyes. During the Super C-17 saga , Krillin is led to be killed by himself, refusing to let his wife go with him. As in all Dragon Ball sagas and being a relatively important character in the series, he will obviously then be brought back to life during the Shadow Dragon Saga, by Goku.
KRILIN IN THE DRAGON BALL MOVIES
Krillin made several notable appearances in the Dragon Ball films released in theaters. Among the latter, we can cite that of the film “The Fratricidal Fight”, where Krillin and his friends face a new Saiyan who has appeared on Earth and named Thales . The latter plants a tree absorbing the vital power of the Earth. We must therefore fight it and get rid of this tree. Krillin fights against him by lacing a Destructo Disk , and also helps Goku and his other companions destroy the tree and defeat Thales. 💥
During the film "Cooler's Revenge" Krillin, Goku, Gohan and Piccolo face Cooler , Frieza's brother, seeking to avenge the humiliating defeat that the latter suffered. The fight is long, and Cooler almost succeeds in killing the four friends. However, they manage to recover, and face Cooler again in an impressive battle, which will lead them to victory.
In the film "The Resurrection of F", Krillin, now a police officer , learns that Frieza is alive and is heading to Earth with an army of more than a thousand warriors. Krillin faces Frieza's army alone, nearly being killed again before being saved by Vegeta. The planet is then saved during a fight between Goku and Frieza, who is beaten and sent back to Hell. 🌍
ANECDOTES ABOUT KRILIN
- Krillin believes that being bald makes him more powerful. Indeed, the latter states that martial arts fighters shave their heads because it helps bring out their ki and their power, citing in particular Kamé Sennin, who disputes this by specifying that he is naturally bald. 👨🦲
- One of the intriguing points about Krillin is his absence of a nose , and this question: but how does he breathe ?
